PEOPLE ARE A LOT WORSE (AND A LOT BETTER) THAN I THOUGHT THEY WERE!
PEOPLE ARE A LOT WORSE (AND A LOT BETTER) THAN I THOUGHT THEY WERE!

A brief for Christian realism: The problem with most Christians is that we have a naïve belief in the goodness of people. We really believe that we’re all reasonably good folks. We have never faced the hard and scary side of sin—both others’ sin and our own. The flip side of Christian realism is the recognition of the image of God in people, even in our enemies. We hate to lose our enemies because they define who we are. And that’s a great problem for Christians. The more we define ourselves in terms of “us and them,” the more marginalized we become. And we wonder why we’re so lonely.
